The Village
St. Dennis is in the very heart of Cornwall, situated 2 miles from the A30 and is roughly mid-way between the towns of Newquay on the North coast of Cornwall and St. Austell on the South coast.
It is a quiet village away from the more touristy parts of the county so you can avoid the traffic congestion common in the more popular areas.
The village is known as a mining village with china clay and stone mines, some still working. In the valley below the village flows the River Fal and beyond the Fal is the flat open area of Goss Moor. This is a great area for walking and safe cycling with multi-use trails marked throughout this nature reserve.
The surrounding landscape lends itself to some very interesting walking. Previously bare slag heaps have been reclaimed by nature, and provide many gravel path, hilly walks nearby with great views from the top.
Amenities in the village:
- The Commercial Inn, a very short walk from the house
- A small shop and a Spar supermarket/Post Office also a short walk away
- Kay’s Fish & Chip shop (excellent!)
- Kebab and takeaway shop
- The Boscawen Hotel with restaurant and bar
- Café
- Hill top Norman Church (CofE) with fascinating and atmospheric church yard
- Methodist Chapel
- Pharmacy
